One less financial rabbit hole.

A little clarity goes a long way.

Is a TFSA only a savings account?

No. Despite the name, a TFSA can hold eligible investments as well as cash. The account sets the tax treatment; what you hold inside it determines the investment risk. Read the CRA’s TFSA overview.

Can I put a TFSA withdrawal straight back in?

A withdrawal adds back to your contribution room on January 1 of the following calendar year. Replacing it in the same year requires other available room. Check CRA’s contribution rules.

Should I use an RRSP or a TFSA?

Compare your tax rate when contributing with your expected rate when withdrawing, along with access needs and benefit interactions. Our RRSP versus TFSA calculator helps you explore assumptions; it cannot decide what is right for you.

Are these calculators financial advice?

No. They are educational estimates. Personal contribution room, tax credits, residency and other circumstances can change your result. Follow the linked CRA sources and check your records before acting.
